Hello Everyone! Welcome to my little Etsy shop!
Since this is the “About Me” section, I guess I should tell you all a little bit about myself. So here we go…
I was born to two wonderful parents – my dad was a philosophy and religion major and my mother was an art major…they even met in the art department. So, growing up, there were always arts and crafts going on. Mom has always been into quilting, basket weaving, antique button collecting, and sewing clothes for me and my sister. Then when I was 6 I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. So, I quickly got used to poking my finger tips with needles 4 or 5 times a day and taking 2 to 4 shots a day. My family decided to go to a Diabetes day camp one year and one of the other moms was making beaded amulet bags…Mom was hooked and so was I. By this time I was in the second grade and was ready for something more challenging than simple daisy chains. Unfortunately, my little fingers were not nimble enough for the delicate work. Back to daisy chains I went and soon began working with macramé. By fourth grade I was doing much better with Nymo and a size 12 beading needle. I was doing well enough for people to stop me and ask about my bracelet. The funny thing was though that people always asked if it hurt when I poked myself with the beading needle. My answer was always, “No, I don’t even feel it.” This was true because of all my time poking my fingers to check out what my blood sugars were. Then in the sixth grade our family decided to homeschool! Mom picked an awesome curriculum that allowed my sister and me to study the same history at the same time. Mom and dad love knowledge too so mom would usually read out loud to us girls…the perfect time to do more beading! Over time my skills grew and grew. I got better at what I knew and learned new things. My family supported me in my love for bling and my grandparents even gave me subscriptions to beading magazines for Christmas. And then there was the time that I met Peggy McCormick (a published bead artist) at Kroger! She was awesome and encouraged me to do more! She even sent me a little treasure box full of Delicas!!
As time has passed I have learned new techniques and learned to work with different mediums. I have been creating my own designs all along and am very pleased to say that they have improved greatly. I had my first show in 2010 and had so much fun! I know that this is what I want to do for the rest of my life!
…So, that is the “little bit” about me…hope it wasn’t too much!
